Terms & License
Last updated 28 July 2026 · Charles-Antoine Pouliot
These terms cover your use of the ChordViz desktop application and this website, both operated by Charles-Antoine Pouliot, a sole proprietor based in Quebec, Canada.
1. The licence you get
A ChordViz Founder License grants you a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use ChordViz for as long as you like. It is a one-time purchase of $29 USD — not a subscription, and it does not expire.
- You may activate one licence on up to 2 devices at a time. You can free a slot at any point from your account page.
- The licence covers future updates to the ChordViz desktop application, as described in section 3.
- The licence is granted to you personally, or to the single organisation that purchased it.
2. Commercial use is included
You may use ChordViz, and any visuals it produces on your screen, in commercial work. That expressly includes paid lessons and tutoring, monetised videos, livestreams, paid performances, and client work. You do not owe any additional fee, royalty, or attribution for this use.
ChordViz does not record or export video. Any capture you make is made with your own screen-recording tools, and the resulting recording is yours.
3. Updates
A Founder License includes updates to the ChordViz desktop application for as long as ChordViz is actively developed, including major versions. It does not include separate products (such as ChordLab), optional hosted or cloud services, third-party paid assets, or multi-seat and site licences, unless we state otherwise in writing.
We may change, add, or retire individual features over time. We will not remotely disable a licence you have paid for.
4. The free trial
ChordViz runs a full-featured 7-day trial starting the first time you launch it. The trial is tracked per machine using a one-way hash of a device identifier, so that it can be offered once per computer. Starting the trial requires an internet connection on first launch; after that it runs offline.
When a trial ends, your saved layouts stay on your computer. We do not delete, hide, or hold your work to encourage a purchase.
5. What you may not do
- Share, resell, sublicense, or publish your licence key.
- Attempt to circumvent licensing or trial enforcement, or distribute tools that do.
- Redistribute ChordViz itself, modified or not, or reverse-engineer it except where that right cannot lawfully be restricted.
If a licence key is shared publicly or used fraudulently, we may deactivate that key.
6. Your content
Layouts, presets, and settings you create are yours. They are stored on your own computer — we do not upload, collect, or claim any right to them. See our Privacy Policy for exactly what ChordViz sends over the network.
7. Payments and refunds
Purchases are handled by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the merchant of record and is the seller on your receipt. Applicable taxes are collected by them. Refunds are covered by our Refund Policy.
8. Third-party components
ChordViz is built with JUCE and includes other third-party open-source components, each under its own licence. Those licences continue to apply to those components.
9. Warranty and liability
ChordViz is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Charles-Antoine Pouliot is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or business interruption arising from your use of ChordViz. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including your statutory consumer rights.
ChordViz is a visualisation tool. Do not rely on it as the sole source of truth for any safety-, broadcast-, or contract-critical decision.
10. Changes and governing law
We may update these terms; material changes will be reflected in the “last updated” date above, and a licence you have already bought keeps the rights it was sold with. These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Quebec and the applicable laws of Canada.
